Got out yesterday with Sam for a quick crappie trip. Put in at 5:30 and fished until 8:30. Got on the water just as one storm was passing and before we could get to our first spot the rain started falling out of the second storm. Headed to a floating dock to ride out the rain and boated 8 crappie with 2 keepers. Not bad, stayed dry and caught some fish.
After the rain we hit the bluffs. The first honey hole had fish as usual but they were somewhat hard to catch and a little deeper around 10 feet or so. Moved to the second honey hole and only about a few but got some nice 11-12" keepers right off the bank under some over hanging trees. Moved to the 3rd honey hole and blistered them pretty good. Fish were holding about 12" off dry rock and were about 2-3 feet deep. Fun stuff. Hit a few more overhanging trees and caught crappie off most of them. One tree had about 10 keepers on it between 11-12 inches.
Headed to another bluff and the bite was much slower but we stuck with it and managed a few with a super nice 13.75 incher. Thought I might have another TARP but no.
We had a super nice evening for size. Out of our 67 crappie we had at least 2 limits of crappie with ten or more fish in the 12 inch range and tons of 11-11.5" fish. Most fish were holding right on the banks under overhanging trees and were super shallow but we also caught fish down to 10-12 feet so they were pretty much everywhere. 1/32 oz lead with anything chartuse. We also got a little LM and 4 bluegill. We hooked and lost quite a few this evening included two spots at the same time. emoBang
Perfect day on the water. After the storms left out the lake got calm, and it stayed very cool. Not bad for 3 hours of fishing. All fish were release.
