Getting Back in the game
#1
Hi everyone out there. so excited to be back fishing after almost 12 years of barely getting a line in the water cause of work but now have a job where my weekends are back and time to teach my kids the joys of fishing i had growing up. i grew up in a small town in south eastern British Columbia Canada and lived only 300M from a great river. Myself and friends would spend hours on that river. Now my family and I live in southern Alberta and have a cabin in Eureka Montana and it has brought back many memories of growing up in the mountians and i want to pass that on to my kids. I've allready had them out on a couple lakes in Montana and so far they love it so thought i would find a place to share some stories and our journey ahead. Looking forward to posting some pics soon. Thanks to everyone and hope to hear other stories and tips since it almost feels like im starting as a newbie to fishing again![fishon]

Welcome to BFT jumper32. Teaching kids is a great thing to do. My two kids love fishing as well. Here is a link to the Montana board and the Canada board.

Thanks for the welcome! Since ive been back to the fishing game we have spent most of our time on lake Koocanusa wich is a resrevoir of the Kootenia River. The most fishing we have done this sumer for is Kokanee salmon. But when i was younger we would spend our winters hitting the ice on the Koocanusa and catch ling ( or burbot wich i think is the more proper name) on the Canadian side and bull trout in the spring. We plan to try some rivers in the Lincon County area this fall and see if the fly rod still works!

I fish for kokanee as much as I can, wish I did not have to travel so far to catch some that are a decent size. How large are the kokes you catch? We have Ling or Burbot here as well, they are sure a slimy fish but taste good. BFT also has a Fly fishing board, if you are interested, here is the link to that board: http://www.bigfishtackle.com/forum/gforum.cgi?category=69

At our closest kokanee lake, that has a boat ramp, they average 9 to 11 inches in most years and in really good years they get up to 13 inches. At one of our best lakes in the state, Flaming Gorge, they average 13" to 15" on the Utah side but on the Wyoming side, it is not uncommon for them to get up to 18" to 20" and at one of the tournaments last year they caught one that was 6 lbs.
