I'm the wrong guy to answer this cause i haven't fish the provo in a while but I do fish the lower provo every now and then and had never had much success on dry fly's. Nymphing (sow bug) has always been much better for me but i'm not the best fisherman. Good luck and welcome to the forum. Sorry i'm not much help.

Dries work well during a hatch but when there's no hatch they don't come up to the surface on bigger rivers like they do on smaller streams.

On smaller streams you can get a few on dries any time of the day with or without matching some kind of hatch. Not so on bigger rivers like the Provo and Weber. At least that is my experience and if someone knows how to make dries work when there's no hatch on bigger rivers then I hope they come on here and share with us all how to do it.

However the only exception are summer days. You can throw terrestrials and big stimulators all day long, and obviously there is no ant or hopper hatch! You can still get into some terrestrial action probably for the next couple weeks as long as it stays warm. Look for low hanging branches or along the banks.

The weeb and the middle provo have been good for hoppers recently, I like the parachute ones cause they are easier to see.
toss them next to the banks near grass or in the ripples of runs.
hopper fishin is the best.
