I would really like to try and catch some Walleye. I am not sure where to start or if the ice is safe. I have only fished for Walleye in Wisconsin and we would use live bait. Any help would be great. Thanks, James

You need to be really careful ice fishing at Salmon Falls. I fish there quite a bit during the summer and there can be some great walleye action but the ice fishing can be pretty tricky. The ice out there can be pretty treacherous so you'll definitely want to connect with some local guys on this forum who can help guide you in the right direction. Unfortunately no live bait can be used in Idaho but I know those same local guys manage to find some walleyes here and there. The trout fishing can be great in the winter out there and there are some very good sized trout in that body of water which are always fun to wrestle out with light tackle.

My partner and I went out to BigSand Bay on Sunday. We Caught some nice trout but no walleye. Neither of us has ever caught a walleye through the ice out there. The ice was 8 to 10 inches thick and safe. I would be careful at Norton bay, the ice varies in thickness. Big Sand bay has mostly a sand bottom, with rocks on some edges. Be careful drilling holes, people leave rocks on the surface and they become covered and can ruin a auger blade. I would appreciate any info you might have on catching walleye through the ice as I gave not been successful.

Yeah, Whoever does that rock thing needs to stop.. It's starting to look like Stonehenge out there. I think they use it to hold their rods but seriously, why not just some of the slush and build a mound?
