#1
Does anyone have any news on Yuba ice conditions?

Fished it yesterday. At least 10 inches of solid ice with about 1/2 inch of crusted snow on top. The water is slowly rising, so the edges are a little soft.

Fishing was great. Catching could have been better. Three anglers and six pike and two perch were caught.

Sounds like you had an awesome time! My buddy and I are thinking about hitting Yuba tomorrow in hopes of finding some pike. I'd still consider myself a novice pike fishermen. So with that said do you have any tips you could share? Anything would be appreciated. PM me if you would like.
Thanks

As I replied to another post:

They can be caught on a whole minnow (dead of course) in about 15 to 25' of water. Rocky areas seem to be the best (at least that is where I have fished and where I have seen most of the other anglers fish).

I use a large treble hook with two of the three hooks stuck in the minnow. Sometimes I also use a second single hook in the head of the minnow.

Those look good....Just be sure to set your drag super loose and let them chew on it for a bit and run a little. Definitely a lot better system then just a regular hook setup and you'll see the difference next time out or even when fishin for other stuff when using whole minnows... I use a little bit different way of hooking them, it's all personal preference, but I like angling the bait downward so that pike can take it head first. It's all trial and error and see which works best for ya.
