Could use some Fire Hole help!
#1
Myself along with a few friends will be making are way to Fire Hole at Flaming Gorge for the first time to try ice fishing there. None of us have ever been there. We are all set on our ice fishing gear but are looking for some in site on where to go. We are taking some wheelers with us to get around on and plan on spending a night on the ice. We are looking for some locations and information on where we should head to. We plan on taking off from the Fire Hole camp ground. We plan on fishing for burbot at night and want to fish for trout both rainbows and lakers during the day. Some info would be greatly welcomed.

I recommend going to Lost Dog over Firehole. We fished both last weekend and catching was much better at Lost Dog. If you do go to Firehole, fish for Burbot off rocky points away from the boat ramp area. The point just out from the boat ramp has been hit hard and is a mess. I talked to some guys that fished that area last weekend and they said it was real slow.

I've never been over to lost dog. Whats the best road to get there and can you get a wheeler on the ice at lost dog?

I assume you have a map. Headed south out of Green River on Highway 530, Take road 012. There are "Lost Dog" signs at the turnoff on the Highway. Stay on the main road (012) and it will take you to Lost Dog. Fish the rocky points on the other side from the parking area or further North along the near shore for burbot.

Yes you can easily get a wheeler on the ice at Lost Dog.

Hi there! Long time BFT lurker, thought now would be a new time to come out of the dark. A few friends and I will be out at lost dog this weekend, it is our very first trip to flaming gorge as well. We will be targeting burbot through the ice in a big Quickfish 6. Feel free to stop by if you see us out there. We have the 'special' looking sled made with water skis and 2X4's. Good Luck!
