Almost another bust on bass again. emoScratch I am just struggling like so many others trying to find that big bag pattern but apparently I still don't know what I am doing in Jan. and Feb. emoRedface Went out loaded with information on places and patterns. I got a later start then I had intended after I had to do a little work to pay for the gas. emoSmile Headed for the place I had caught a good limit a couple weeks ago and found a billion shad but no bass wanted to play. Wasted about an hour there and headed for a point on the main lake. Started shallow and worked my way out to the end. Nothing, natta, zip, just when I thought there was no bass there it appeared that a good one right in front of me busted some shad. emoMad Never could get anything on to play. I saw the famous Rogne with what looked to be a couple clients in sight of me for an hour and never saw them catch any either. At least he did not make me want to give it up by catching a boat load while I watched. I ran up river and tried several other places but it was poor to bad. Water was mud most of the lake. Temp was just over 40 to just over 43 degrees. I was working a deep pocket with a trap and thought I had hung up. Just felt like a stick for a second or two and the next thing I know it pulls back. emoDance Not a monster but at least it kept me from being skunked on the bass. I weighed it and it was 3/1. emoThumbsup

I finally gave it up. Went crappie fishing and found several places where they were willing to play. One of them was loaded. Most came from about 15 to 16 feet with barely moving the jig. I boated about 60 would be a good guess. I was not counting. I would have had a very nice limit however all were released to play another day. No tarps but had some nice ones in the 12 inch length. Using my usual high viz 4 lb test, a 1/32nd head and a blue/chartreuse crappie tube. Had a good time catching. Always nice to have a back up plan to make the day seem more of a success.

The year is young, it will only get better. emoGeezer Jmax
