Heys guys, I'm planning to do some pike fishing at U.L. soon and I'm planning to throw some of my pike lures. But, I have my two pole permit and I would like to use my second rod for deadbait fishing. I've never been bait fishing for pike and I would really like it if you guys could help me out. Like rigs, bait, and some other things. And also I plan on using circle hooks so that I won't miss a hit while casting some lures. What are guys thoughts on this? Thank you very much.

I think it's a good idea. you'll catch some nice catfish to keep the skunk off while chasing pike at UL.

[#0000FF]As you know, there ARE pike in UL. But not sure there are enough to specifically target them. The good news is that almost anything you soak for catfish or walleye will also catch pike...if they are around.
Large chub minnows under a bobber will catch all the predators. Ditto for small (dead) white bass or perch. And pike also hit anchovies pretty well. Use a wire leader above your hook rig.
If the water level was up higher you would have a better shot at targeting pike around weed beds. But at current water levels you have to find underwater structure (ambush spots). And (as you found out), there are pike inside the harbors too. Fish in the deeper holes, around docks or around rocks or points inside the harbors.
You may not catch a lot of pike but I am sure the kitties will help keep you from being bored if you fish minnows or anchovies.
