I'm new to BFT and have enjoyed reading many great posts. A few days ago someone mentioned they had some great success at Strawberry and pulled some Kokes thru the ice and I have seen the occasional post this year of a few others pulling kokes thru the ice?? I fish Strawberry quite frequently and target Kokes in the summer and fall but have never targeted them thru the ice. I have fished maybe 15 times this winter and had good success for the typical slot cuts or rainbows with no complaints. I have the typical required equipment with fish finders / snowmobiles, etc, etc but have yet to target or catch a Koke.
Obviously I am not targeting them at this point, probably not fishing in the right spots or with the correct equipment compared to how I troll in summer and fall. I just wondered if many or any of you specifically try and target kokes thru the ice? We all know that kokes follow that 52 degree water temp thru the spring / summer and fall, but what do they do in the Winter?? Does this mean they are still deep or do they disperse?
After reading the post, I did some R&D and saw that many in other states try and target kokes and do some really funky things for attracting them. One person I read about even rigged up some flashers on a windshield wiper motor to attract them. Some I have read about catch them at 5' and others at 60' thru the ice (other lakes in MT)??
Anyway, if anyone has any insight (other than giving away their secret spot) I would love to hear of any success stories or how you target kokes thru the ice at strawberry, if at all.
Thanks.
