Broke my rod! On a budget
#1
Well I finally broke my rod. Nothing fancy just an ugly stik lite. Had it for long enough that it went out of warranty.

I am looking to replace it but I am on a budget. I have sort of been pondering an ugly stik GX2, I just feel that for the price they are awesome and have an awesome warranty (even if mine failed me)

ONLY reason I am asking is because I am also pondering switching to a bait caster. Just wanted opinions on the rods as far as bait casting and bass.

I am looking at the 7' MH rod that is rated to 1/4-3/4 ounces. Its lure rating is a bit low, but the rod will be used about 50/50 for bass and trout and carp. It would be an all around rod.

Thoughts? Been wanting to give a bait caster a try because the spinning rod is a bit of a PITA for bass fishing.

I'm partial to Shamono, with their life time warranty. Break it and it's free. Doesn't have to break the bank as well.

I picked up a Shimano Clarius this fall for steelhead and love it. But to get the lifetime shimano warranty I have to spend more like $100+ and at this point that $100+ is an ugly stik and a tank of gas to go use the ugly stik. That and Shimano is a bit strict on the warranty, if the rod looks like it was used good they won't replace them... Theres no guarantee this rod won't bounce around in the pickup on occasion and I don't want that to void the warranty.

Just wanting to see if there is anything better than an ugly stik for the price.

Powell Rods has a line called the Diesel series. I think Tackle Warehouse some of them on sale right now.

There are a lot of nice rods for around $100. I have a Shimano Compre, and I think it's a great rod. Most manufacturers won't cover a replacement if it's obvious the rod was poorly taken care. Spend $6 and get a rod sock, and that will help it not to get dinged up when transporting it. Another great little rod for the price is a Denali Jadewood. Also the St Croix Mojo Bass and Falcon Bucoo series are really nice too, though they only have a 5 year warranty.

Thanks all, just ended up getting a cheap little Abu Vendetta. Something to let me dip my toes into the bait cast world.

Got a really good job lined up for this summer so depending on how I like the bait cast I will just upgrade at the end of the summer then let the little brother take over the Vendetta.

hahahaha nahhhh Ive already got my next fly rod lined out.. Now its just getting the funds for it. Winston Boron iii [cool] Maybe by the end of the summer Ill be getting it.

Yea Im planing on saving. Figure this cheap little Abu setup willl let me fish and see if I like bait casters. If I end up liking them I will be upgrading. I am joining my universities bass "club" and if I do I can get a decent sized discount from a few companies.
