ICE ON
I did not have time to post last Thursday when I went up to Strawberry, Soldier Creek side, but what a day. It was hot fishing and I lost track of the number of fish after 30, but the best part was the young man that learned a few tricks on how to catch fish.
I have a two pole permit and several times I had doubles on. This young man, Todd was fishing about 40 yards from me and he could not catch anything. Every time I caught a fish he would come over and ask if I needed help. Haha I would say sure and he would bring in the fish for me. Finally, I asked him to join me and we spent over 3 hours teaching and catching. Every time Todd would catch a fish his Dad would run over and take picture and video. After 4 or 5 fish his Dad stopped and when further down to fish.
Fish and Game came by and said Adam Eakle was up in the parking lot watching us catch fish. Later, Adam and his crew walked South of us and filmed some footage. I had a 23" monster cut and 2 big 19 inch rainbows in the cooler and the Fish and Game Warden said we had done better than most.
Todd went from a young teenager not catching any fish to a pro. He told the DWR man he lost track of how many fish he had caught.
When I left at 8pm, he asked me if there was any chance we might run into each other again someday. Now that is a great day!! His Dad and Grandpa was there and they were so grateful for the help. His Dad told me his son had not caught a fish in a long time. Payday.
ICE OFF!!!
Went up to the same spot yesterday. Ice is totally gone over the entire lake. There is only a couple of place with little ice and only because it blew up against the shore. Even Strawberry side is totally open.
Fishing was slower. Caught 6 rainbows, no cuts in 3 hours. Slipped on the rock, got wet, wind blew, snow came and I was out of there. Fishing should not be painful. [

Here are a couple of pics from the good day on May 1st.
I did not get a pic of my big 23 incher. Dang it!! The rainbows were very nice. Some were 19 inches and fat.
Enjoy
