Decided to hit a spot I've been meaning to try this spring, and despite the W-I-N-D - had a pretty good couple hours out. Even though I got distracted from hooksets by my bow, it was fun all the same.

The Carp were surely doing the Fishy-Lambada, and I needed to teach a few lessons in discretion. Learned a few too, like how - even at point blank range I can still pitch into nothing but mud! Funny as anything watching my pup chase after the splashing "stick" as it raced around. She gets awful excited about all them wriggly things. VERY attentive to my rods for any sign of action.

So - got some garden fertilizer, and when I did sit down to tend my bait rods - missed a few running bobbers that I must not have put a good enough hookset on. And my bottom feeder rod was hard to detect bite from wind blow. It was pretty breezy you might say. But - I did bring in a nice 2 footer channel to cap the day.

Suffice it to say - I'd do it again if I HAD to!

Good fun! Man, I wish I could get out on the marsh. I tried it for about an hour on Wednesday by valley view and only scored a couple mudders. Been doing yard work and gardening this weekend so no fun for meSad

Looks like a good dinner and great bait, way to go!

Hey Yote nice catch, I took my little toon out Saturday AM and found the carp spawn on pretty full swing. Which is a good sign for me, the channels have followed the carp and are taking the minnows on a troll again. However, they aren't getting ahold very well. I got one out of five hits and it looks like the smallest of the weekend Cutler reports. (21.5"). Still really happy to see the bite back on in my area. Do need my other toon though the little one is too hard to keep at a decent speed and I miss my racks to hold gear. Can't read your scale. How big were your carp? Later J

Carp were 2ft mostly, and the one smaller. So no new contest entries.

I have a theory - that when those pods of "brown" are mucking about, there's a good chance channels congregate below the ruckus, slurping up eggs as they are released. Though - there's lots of shoreline action. I should have snapped a video before I spooked em all, with a little help from my little friend! There was serious frenzy in the shallows - mud so churned up - took a razorback at the surface to "see" anything worth pulling the trigger at.

Yup I think you're right, its not like rainbow following the salmon spawn but there are usually cats somewhere around the excitement of the spawn. Later is even better because they are eating the small fry and then it gets fun. Glad they are back though. Later J

Need to try a night trip, and this is a good spot for it. Hopefully the wind would die down at night to make a fire safer. Wonder if anyone would mind if I pitched a tent at shoreside? Got plenty of glow-sticks.

I know they catch bigger fish at night, but I just haven't got the night fish bug yet. But I'll bet you would be okay to pitch the tent and build a fire, as long as you arent on the bridges, while things are still green. When it gets dry then the fires are iffy. Guess I still like to catch the cats trolling instead of bait fishing too and that would be real tough in the dark. Sorry to be a party pooper on that one. Later J

I'm not too big into the Night Cattin' either... Two Words: major mosquitoes.

If you're gonna do it, Spring is the time to do it. The big ones DO come out to play at night, when most everyone else is sleeping.
