Eh, better than work!

Got to the Crystal Lake T.H. at about 7 and hiked my way to Marjorie and arrived at 8:10. Tried by the inlet...nothing. Outlet...nothing. Northwest side...nothing. Moved over to the dam and got my single grayling of the day on a renegade. Caught a mess of little 3"-6" brookies on a Psycho Prince and had another grayling on but got off.

After another hour of a whole lot of nothing I decided to go over the hill to Weir. Looked down and saw ripples...good sign. Half hour goes by with nothing. I decided to head back down the trailhead and go to Trial. As I was walking by the inlet I seen some ripples and little dark shadows, I though eh might as well. Good decision. Got some of my dignity back with 5 gorgeous Brooks in full out spawning colors. Got sprayed with eggs and milt with a couple of them. Caught 4 out of the 5 on a renegade fished wet. The other one on a blood red bugger.

Not the 70+ catching trip I had last fall but it's better than nothing!

Nice to be able to fish that beautiful country even if you didn't catch large numbers of fish. Do you have any idea why the grayling were so lacking at Marjorie? When I fished it a couple years ago most of the ones I caught, casting a fly and a bubble, were out further than most folks get with a fly rod.

I don't. I seen probably 10-15 fish rise the entire 4 hours I was there. Seeing that made me go subsurface with a renegade (fished wet) and a double nymph rig with a Psycho Prince on top and a Rainbow Warrior on the bottom. But all that caught were those tiny brookies. That's when I decided to move over to Weir.
