Ice Cleats
#1
Hello all. I'm going to be doing my first hard deck trip in February to Otter Creek. I'm looking around at ice cleats and see various options at various prices.

I don't want to spend a whole lot since this is a one-time shot. Also, I don't want to waste money on something so cheap it doesn't perform, but i definitely would like something to help me avoid falling.

I'm wondering if a $7 set will cut it for one trip or if I should spend more?

Also, I have big feet and wear a size 13 boot so I want to make sure whatever I buy will fit. Not available in the stores here in southern NV to try out.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of people just turn in a dozen sheet metal screws (the kind with the hex head) in the heel and sole areas. You have to have thick soles, of course. But for a one-time trip, this would work well and cost only pennies.

This vid talks about running shoes, but it's otherwise fine...

Try this. Take some rubber inner tube, jury rig it so that you can tie it on to your boots add the screws and wala instant cleats. I have a pair and they are made from rubber and slip on over my boots.
