spuds704, Nickajack, Crappie and bass, 2/11/15, solo

Haven't been out in about a month and after reading the posts on here with everyone catching fish I got the fever and decided to try to find some crappie. The weather man said calm winds but that was not the case. Got out about noon and the wind got up and I couldn't stay on docks or cover so I decided to head up river above Hale's bar dam and try to pick up a bass over the grass flats. I couldn't find any takers. After being blown up river the flat turned into a steep rocky bank and it was covered with fish but with a crappie jig hanging over the side and casting all kind of bass stuff I couldn't get any action there. Just as I was about to head for somewhere else, I reeled up the crappie jig and cast it up near the bank and I got a strike. Thought it was a small bass but it turned out to be a crappie, and a nice one at that. It was 15 in. long and weighed 2 1/2 lb. So I flung BG electric chicken and every other color BG lure on every size jig I had for another hour and finally gave up. I'm going to return her to the river via the scenic route, the sewage treatment plant in Trenton, then into lookout creek and she should hit the river at Moccasin Bend sometime in late spring. Water temps were 48 to 50 and no current that I could detect. A good day on the water, been better if the fish would help a little more. emoBang
