Fish Lake conditions?
#1
I'm considering one last ice fishing trip to Fish Lake next Tuesday and Wednesday. I was there last week and we did very well on the fishing and ice conditions were very good on the north end of the lake.

I'm looking for a conditions update since the recent snow storms. When I was there last week there wasn't any snow on the ice and the ice was about 8-9 inches where I fished. I'm wondering how much snow got dumped on the lake and I need to know if an ATV will be useable on the north end.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Mike, the Fish Lake Lodge reported 6" new snow yesterday. Said access was good. Last Friday my backyard neighbor was out on the north end and had snowmobiles. The edges were good, and the ice was plenty thick. I want to get down there on Saturday, myself.

Having said that, anyone been up this week, or in the past few days that can give us an update?

Thanks for the information. It looks like another snow storm is headed that way for the weekend. If anyone does get up there over the weekend, I would appreciate another update on the conditions.

Thanks......Mike

I have heard very recent reports that conditions south of Fish Lake in the Wahweap area are very good. They'd be a bit more conducive for the Optimax.

I hardly ever use my boat while ice fishing. The ice is tough on the hull and the outboard is constantly cavitating. Open water fishing is just around the corner.
Looking at the weather forecasts, this weekend and early next week might require the use of my shelter. It will be the first time this season that I've needed the Eskimo Quickfish 3 tent.
If it were easy, it wouldn't be fun!

Hey Hookinup, did you make it up today? (28th). Sounds like the "berry" will be good for a few more weeks or so. I am hoping to get one more trip in after the session.

Mac, I was there this morning. Edges were good, except for the huge ice chunks that are heaved up on shore now. Once you get across those, you're good. I had nearly a foot of ice on the south end.
Caught cookie cutter splake at 20' in 30' of water until; about 9am, then it died off. Snowed the whole time. Just breezy, not what I'd call wind here. There was about 3-4" of snow on the ice. Roads were good getting there. The state plows had the place cleaned up well.

Judging by the weather reports on TV, I would imagine Fish Lake got a good dump of snow recently. I would like to see a report from anyone who got up there this weekend. It's possible the snow is too deep for my ATV and I hate dragging the sled in deep snow.

I appreciate any and all reports from the pond.

I was there yesterday 2/28 at the north end (Joe Bush) at the start of the day there was around 2" of snow on top, but by 4:00 PM when we left there was probably 8 - 10". Also it seemed to be a little slushy as well. Ice still seems fine though it was 6 - 8" inches at 18' of water

Thanks for your report. If it was 8-10 inches when you left yesterday, there's probably quite a bit more from overnight. That much snow weighs down the ice and water works it way to the surface and saturates the snow. I'm afraid the slush monster will be alive and well for a while until everything freezes up solid.

I might still have to give it a try since I was planning this trip as my last one for the ice fishing season. Maybe someone was up there today and can update your report.

Thanks again and welcome to the site!

Yeah, Mac, we hit the north end. Caught a ton of perch, lots of rainbows, and a dozen or so splake. Good solid ice. Lots of fun. We left at 3. It was still showing, with about 8" of ice on the lake total. No lush yet. Winter is back up there......

I went today it was -8 when we got to the lake. We found 12 plus inches of ice about 6 inches of snow with just a little slush. The fishing was HOT took one of the guys from work and his two kids we had a hard time leaving because it never really slowed down. We fished in 18 feet of water and caught Perch, Rainbows and Splake.

I thought I was done for the season but glad I went today we left around 1 with a limit of trout good day on the lake and should be another few weeks of ice.

I went to Fish Lake on Tuesday afternoon and fished Wednesday and today (Thursday). Conditions were OK but the snow was a little too deep to use my ATV.
I will post a detailed report tomorrow.
