Well, ill have to say that this was probably the best worst day we have had on the water. Started off in our first spot, and luckily we had it to ourselves. We fished there on Friday, and our best three was probably about 14 to 15 pounds. So within the first 30 minutes, Chop had our first keeper in the boat, a 2.8 on a shakey head. 20 minutes or so later, we had our second in the boat, about a 5 pounder on the shakey. Shortly there after, we had our third keeper, another 5-ish on the shakey. We got to the back of the slough, and there was a monster on bed in about a foot of water. We spent about 30 minutes or so trying to hook up with her. Probably 6 different times she would pick up the tail of our shakey and move it away from the bed. We'd set the hook, and our bait would come flying back at us. She was just a tease ! Decided to leave her alone for a bit and make another loop of the slough. Chop caught another keeper that was 2.14, so we culled the 2.8. Stopped and tried that big girl again, but she was having nothing of it. We decided to leave and hit another spot. Got there and fished a little slough with no fish. Then we started to run across to the otherside and hit some blowdowns. Chop put the trolling motor on 5 and here we went. Then it stopped. We thought we popped the breaker on the battery cable like it has done in the past, but this was not the case. We tried bypassing the breakers and straight wiring it, to no avail. This was at 11:30. There was not a lot of wind or current where we were, so we used the dip net as a makeshift paddle. This worked well enough until we used it as a push pole on the bottom. Then it broke too. So we just used the big motor to line us up and get a run down a bank so we could drift. We loaded the boat at 1:00 and waited for the weigh in. All keepers were caught on the shakey head in 1 to 2 feet of water. For us, when the sun came up, the bite kinda died. Thought we had 10 to 11 pounds, so 13.02 was a nice surprise. Finished fourth for the second time in a row, first out of the money so we won a 50 dollar gift card to DJ's. That should be enough to buy the part Chop needs to fix his trolling motor! Congrats to Earl and Dink on another victory and big fish. Enjoyed seeing everyone and glad that all was safe!
