Lower Provo Report
#1
I hit the Lower Provo on Friday and Sunday and it is still fishing quite well. I caught a dozen or so a little below the dam. Almost every fish was caught on a jujubaetis, wd-40, rs-2, or zebra midge, all were around size 18 - 22. The water was higher and stronger than I expected.

I hit the area below Bridal Veil falls as well. The water was fast and treacherous, and I wouldn't recommend fishing it unless you know how. Still, I found a lot of good pocket water and caught around ten fish in a couple hours. A lot of PMD's were coming off in this section, seems a little early, but we had a warm year. I also saw a few BWO's and several midges. I Czech nymphed with a size 16 Iron Lotus (the brown PMD imitation) as my anchor fly and a size 18 rainbow warrior off a tag a little ways up. The fish favored the rainbow warrior most of the time. I only took pictures of a couple of the fish that I caught on this section.

Nice report! Looks like things are calming down a bit below DCR (550 CFS on Friday, 440 on Sunday, and just dropped below 300 today).

Any caddis flapping around?

I didn't see any caddis in the air, I did see some larva in the water though. I had a caddis nymph as my anchor fly for a bit without any takers before I noticed all the PMD's in the air and switched to an iron lotus.

How's the water clarity? I fished it down closer to the state park in town and it was murky.

The water was a little murky but I've seen it worse.

I've actually never fished the Lower outside of the canyon. I think I will have to try it around town or closer to Utah Lake sometime this Summer.
