Utah Lake Keeping the Dream Alive 07-03
#1
Greetings all,
I made a quick trip out to The Knolls (west side of Utah Lake) on Friday morning. First order of business was to get some fresh bait by breaking in my new fishing bow that my wife surprised me with on our anniversary (I know, what a woman). When arrived at 7:45 A.M., I had the place to myself (a bit of a surprise) and the carp were frolicking all around the shore. 30 minutes and a lot more missed shots than I care to admit later, I had fresh filleted carp loaded my cooler and the leaky pontoon was launched. For the record, it's a pretty easy launch for an inflatable pontoon or for a kayak if you can carry your gear about 50', my feet dangling friends might have a bit of a struggle because the water stays knee deep for a couple hundred feet (depending on where you launch).

I headed south toward the rocky point while trying to ignore the hundreds of carp all around (OK, I stopped and shot a couple times). I dropped anchor about 150' offshore and tossed out a good sized chunk of carp on a 5/0 hook with no weight (thanks everyone for the input on my previous post) and on my second rod tossed a worm with a piece of shrimp.

I fished until about noon landing 5 channel cats on the carp rod. The largest (see picture) was a beat up 28.25" male and the rest were standard UL channel cats of the 20"-23" variety. The worm rod stayed busy as well with another 6-8 channel cats ranging from 14"-20".

On the way back to the truck another carp shoot was too tempting adding an extra 45 minutes to my trip and I was loaded and heading home before 1:00 P.M.. I had to grin when I arrived at my truck to a much more crowded beach and stood up in a foot of water about 50' further out than the bobbers of the bank tanglers fishing near my truck. All in all, a very nice morning.

Way to show the bank tanglers how shallow they are fishing in.[Tongue] Nice looking cat.
