Today, along with the trips I had last week, have been very consistent with some decent numbers of quality fish, even with the slower bite due to the water in the main lake areas being stained from all of the rain from last week my clients and I have still been able to put some nice fish in the boat. I got the opportunity today to watch a lady not only catch some nice fish on a "Black Jitterbug", yes I said "Jitterbug", but I also got to see her get a fish on that decided it just wanted to keep her Jitterbug and turned the other way and didn't stop and took the Jitterbug with it! I know I brag about how hard fish hit a Bull Shad, but "Dang" they, including the small ones, absolutely demolish a "Jitterbug"! I truely don't remember the last time I used a Jitterbug, but I will guarantee you that I will have several in my boat the next time I go out. It's time for this bait to make a comeback. The main patterns though have been holding true with the hotter weather by using Zell-Pop's and Bull Shad Swimbaits early and late,(and Jitterbugs) then moving out to deeper grass and river ledges during the day and swimming 10" worms and 1/2 oz. jigs. The water however in the main lake areas seems to be clearing up and this should make for a better bite on some of the deeper grass edges that cover a majority of the main lake backwater areas. When these areas do clear up look out for some exciting and aggressive action with some very good quality fish exploding on topwater baits. The grass on the north end of the lake is getting primed up for some Snag Proof Frog action, the brown muck is starting to look good and will only get better in the following next few weeks. Get out and have some fun. Mike Carter
