We got back on the water for CFF #7 after the fiasco at Nickajck. Headed downriver to first spot and on second or third cast I hooked a spot that would have kept, but while unhooking him he squirmed out of my hands and over the gumwale. That was the start of a bad night for me as I struggled with the water flow all evening. Dusty on the other hand, was having one of his best nights with a jig. After he initially caught a ten pound blue cat, he caught the first keeper of the night, then another keeper spot. As darkness hit we went with spinnerbaits to no avail before moving up river. There we fished and watched three baby raccoons frolic before Dusty hooked into the first big largemouth of the night. We got it in the boat and figured we might get onto something. We both caught several short fish before Dusty hooked the 3.59 Smallmouth with about 45 minutes to go in the tournament. We tried to upgrade the runt we had, but he had one come unbuttoned, as did I. I had planned on fishing some shallow water after dark, but the transducer we installed recently was not properly installed, and as a result I was concerned about being able to properly navigate, which kept us out on the river.
We ended up with a decent night, but I can definitely say I don't like being the designated net man.
