Tackle Tip
#1
[Wink] Are you missing those hook sets while jigging ? Walleyeteaser gave me a tip and I tried it and it helps bigtime !! Most jigging spoons have a treble hook , but are on the small side !!! Try putting on a size or two bigger treble , and you'll hook more fish !! Lastnite I tried this , and caught 16 walleyes , and the other two guys that were with me caught 3 !! Thanks for the hot tip walleyeteaser !!

dont ya just love them days [cool]

last time I out fished an old timer they said even a young pup will have a good once in a while.... gotta luv em.

I thought the same thing on my repala, it works for bass, but my gills dont seem to get those 1/4 inch mouths open wide enough to swallow a 3/4 inch treble, but bouy when I catch a gill that can, you are going to hear the whoopin and hollarin all the way to your house.[sly] he is going to be a monster....[shocked]

great tip. gonna pick up some larger trebles, I am out as it is now. I will only buy stainless from now on, I never liked them because of the color, but now I have to replace all my trebles every year I am going back to stainless... cost more up front, but cheaper in the long run. even on fresh water.

I'm hoping for a gill that can swallow a 4/0 treble hook. I believe then I would be allow to retire even if its early. But of course the retirement would mean traveling to the hard water lakes in the winter.

By the same token that you would go to larger hooks for some species, you might want to go to smaller hooks for other species.

I almost always put bigger trebles on my lures. It seems like the manufacturers are try to help out the fish by putting small trebles on lures!

dad always said that manufactures only put on what's necessary to do the job , not get the job done .

upgrading is the key to sucess .

if a business owner can get 2000 slightly smaller hooks for the price he pays for a 1000 of his regular ones , well , he's gonna keep his spending the same and increase the profit margin a bit . are you getting your moneys worth this way ?

just depends on which end of the tug of war with a doller your on , the getting end or the keeping end , lol !

Great tip! Now if I could just figure out what I did with my treble hooks I can start replacing.

Will the replacement on the crankbaits change their action or depth ability any?

It all depends on how big of a treble you put on. I've put up to a size 2 treble on a crankbait with very little change in action. I guess you just have to experiment and see what works.

Yeah, I suppose so. Hmmm, wonder if it would change the action to something else that entices the fish.

one thing to remember is that changing the hook will effect the action slightly , make it go deeper as it effects the boyancey .

but make shur that you leave it "tuned "as well .

if the attachment screws are not perfectly alligned it will cause your lure to turn to one side or the other , sometimes spiral out of controll .

offseting them can be a plus if you know how to use it to your advantage . practise the different effects that turning and bending the screws have on your lures on a still lake or pond , watch the action of the lure , and then apply what you learn to river fishing , or when fishing in a current .

pro's do it all the time , you ever see them whip out the needel nose pliers on the shows ? there tuning there lures .[cool]

another good tip . even great for us ice fishing guys . the BIG FISH TACKLE HOOK SAFE ! iniexpencive way to protect the hooks and yourself ! and after a day of tip up fishing you don't have to use frosen fingers to take the hook off to avoid an accident . one snap and your set to go for your next trip .[Wink]

Great tip! I need to get a bunch of those. I'm tired of my lures getting all tangles up in the hooks. Takes a good 5 minutes sometimes to get them all untangled. Makes you wonder if they come alive and intertwine on purpose.

this is not ice fishing, but I can testify to what you saying to be a fact.

I had a lazy ike once at a much younger age, I could not get that thing to swim streight. I thought it was me, so I took it and lowered it over the edge of a bridge and would ya beleive it, barrol rolls, that ike did nothing but barrol rolls. wished I knew that tip some 35 years ago, I might still have had that ike in my box now....
