Magic Res

Fished Magic again on Saturday, last. Ice was around 7 or 8 inches in most places, but I did find one spot that was closer to 5 so, so I didn't venture any further out.

I fished out of the West Magic side. There were quite a few people with various machines from ATV's to side by sides to snowmobiles. All seemed to be doing okay, but had some trouble with the slushy conditions. I personally had some difficulty with getting my ATV and my auger to start due to the cold. I also had issues getting my ATV back up to the top of the ramp. I made it eventually, but had to work at it a bit. Whomever sold me the starting fluid, I thank you. I'd still be stuck out there without it. I won't go again without at least 1 can and a spare. Did I mention that the cold made everything difficult to start? Oh, I did. Well it is worth mentioning it again.

Neither of us caught any perch, although I did see a few on the sonar in the deeper water. The trout seemed to like something moving and I did best on a Vertigo jig and a pink holographic Gizzilla from Maniac. White Gizzillas also produced along with a small football jig tipped with meal worm, but that only seemed to work first thing in the morning. I didn't get anything on that setup after about 9 or so.

Rainbows were what was biting. They ranged in size from about 9-10 inches up to over 20 inches. I'm pretty sure that combined (2 of us) we caught over 20 fish, possibly 30, but I didn't really keep an accurate count. The trout seemed to be shallow early on but moved deep once the sun came out.

If you go, I wish you good luck.

Hit Magic again yesterday. Brought home 7 nice trout and 1 perch between 2 of us. Fishing was slow, but conditions were greatly improved. I think a good 4WD ATV could go just about anywhere on the lake they wanted if you go down the West Magic ramp. About 30-40% of the trout are pretty nice sized. Perch are good too if you can get them to bite.
