I'm all loaded up with my ice gear, ratfinkees, ice bugs, jigs, and tubes.
Heading out tomorrow afternoon, and today I'll be respooling my ice rods. Should I go with 4lb test or 6lb test?

Go with 6 lb that way you have a little more security as you bring them up through the hole. You don't really gain that much in line diameter or responsiveness going to a 4 lb.

I'd vote 6lb as well, the 4lb rots out way too fast and I really don't notice the fish shying away from heavier line. If they do put on 3ft of leader in the 4 lb. To be truthful I'm using braid with a mono or flouro leader on everything these days so I don't have to change my line so often. It works great for me. Later J

I would say if you want to feel extra safe to not lose lures or fish go 6 pound, but 4 pound will work just fine.

4 lb. and set your drag accordingly.
4 lb. will have less 'memory coils' in it.
' Memory coils' = missed bites/lost fish.

I agree with SBennett about the coiling. If you're going to use anything small the coiling becomes a serious issue.
I haven't caught any slot busters yet, but I have pulled 18" cuts right up onto the ice with 4lb line and fluorocarbon leader. I've pulled a hook trying that, but never broken the line.

I like the braid with a few feet or flouro leader. I get bites when my friend in the same tent do not. I believe it has to do with the more invisibleness(sp?) of that line. After a few trips and the leader is shorter you just add a new leader.

6# red label seaguar. That stuff is thin and tough. Have never broken the line on a fish. Have broken a couple rods however.
