A few friends and I have a Fish Lake trip planned for early next week, Tuesday through Thursday. I haven't seen a recent report on the ice surface conditions. I would like to know if an ATV would work on the lake or is a snowmobile needed to access the east side of the lake at the north end?
Thanks for any and all replies.

Went Monday-Tuesday this week. Ice was 15"+ everywhere we drilled. Used 4 wheelers and tried to get to the north east end but could get past the foot of slush in the middle of the lake. Ended up staying out in the middle of the lake fishing in 100' and caught 12 Lakers and some annoying little Rainbows.
An older guy drove his 4 wheeler right up to us mid day and buried his wheeler in the slush. He literally spent the rest of the day trying to winch his way out. At sun down we had to go over and help him get out. Wheelers are fine early morning until you hit the slush in the middle of the lake, snowmobiles might do better. There's areas in the middle that look slushy with the darker colored areas but that was hard packed ice that we ended up fishing on.
Good luck.

Thanks for your information. We have decided to take an ATV and a snowmobile so we can be prepared for any conditions.

Mike, I fished FL today on the south end.
Low 50's and no wind, absolutely beautiful.
Fished 8-14 fow and caught a 50/50 mix of perch and trout. Fished from 9-12:45 then went rabbit hunting. Fishing was red hot till noon then tapered fast. Ended with about 30 fish.
Ice was rock hard and edges tight.

We were there today. There was no slush where we were and ATV's had little difficulty getting around to the East side. We started on the South end and hiked over to the East side. Ice was about 20 inches of hard, clear ice.

Thanks for your update. It looks like we can use both the snowmobile and my ATV. That's good since there will be three of us and all the gear. I'll post a report when I get home. Hopefully it might include a photo or two of some larger Macs.
