Worst Day Yet on Strawberry
#1
I had my worst day yet on Strawberry (2/12). I fished a couple of spots with my dad around Mud Creek, and caught one fish each. I've never marked so few on the finder. We moved and drilled lots of holes, but just couldn't find much.

I didn't check much more shallow that 15', and didn't fish any deeper than 38'. And tried a couple spots in between.

Was this just a bad day, or do the fish move this time of year?

How was the slush?

Not bad, but we were out of there by noon. Some parts were solid, but several parts still have a layer of ice and slush on top of the good ice. I think you'd have been OK in a 4 wheeler today, but if it got much warmer it could quickly go bad.

Strawberry really slows down this time of year. I have been told it is due to the oxygen levels getting low which makes them very lethargic. They are there, but a fish finder and tip sensor is a must. I've not fished strawberry much this year, but the few times I have fished, it seems things are just a bit slower than past years.

That'll happen.

I blame it on the moon.

I agree that Strawberry almost always slows down in February, but I have had excellent success there when March rolls around. Even April, in cooler springs, can be good as well. You also have the lake to yourself, even around common access points as anglers move on to other interests.

It's been an average year on strawberry, with a couple slow days. But always in February, it slows down. Have s good fray here or there. But once March comes along it gets hot fast! It's just the moon cycle, and February in general

Sorry for the slow day you had, but I'm going to disagree with everyone that says fishing slows down in February. Last year I fished with my Dad from December through February and our best days came in February. We fished the same general area each time.
