Big Blue on April fools
#1
Decided late Thursday night to make a quick run to Bear Lake. Launched about 7:30am and ran across to the east side. It was a beautiful morning with lots of mergansers in the air and on the water eating sculpin I think. Fished 50 - 65 feet of water and tried to fish as close to the bottom as possible. Caught eight fish, six of them over three pounds. The largest fish was just over six pounds and we caught one other just over five.

There were five or six boats on the water and everyone seemed to be picking up a few fish. We were fishing larger crank baits. Seemed like the jointed lures did slightly better than the others. Trolled 2.0 to 2.5 mph.

Beautiful fish. Mix of wild and hatchery? Any Lakers? What a great day to be on the water. Spring is here!

Four wild fish and four hatchery raised. All Cutts, all still swimming. Here is a picture of another nice fish we caught back in December. Those big Bear Lake Cutts are special fish.

I'm thinking of heading to Bear Lake today ... has anybody heard if you can launch at First Point or Cisco? I know they reported that the ice had jammed up at both of those, but wondered if this nice weather created access to launch at either of those spots.

Thank you! Can't wait to get on Big Blue with the Maggie May!

The east side was wide open. Shouldn't be a problem to launch but I am not sure if I saw any of the docks in the water.

Let us know how you do. With the Sculpin spawning you might be able to pick up some big cutts at first light in the shallow water. We picked up some very nice fish in December during the Bonneville white fish spawn. We were casting to the shore with bladed jigs and then bringing them back out to 12-15 feet.
