Starvation anyone?

Reports are pretty silent on Starvation lately. Anyone made the trip lately?

[#0000FF]I have heard a few reports over the past weeks. The lake is already pretty full but water temps are still down in the low 50s. A bit cool for perch and walleye but the rainbows...and a few browns...are hitting flies and lures.

Best depths from one report was to fish in water 25 to 35 feet deep...for the trout...with the fish anywhere from the bottom to the top...with some taking items from the surface.

There have been reports of seeing what appeared to be schools of perch on the bottom in deeper water. But they are likely just spawned and not too active until the water warms a bit.

There are a few folks headed over in the next couple of days...prospecting for non-trout species. I usually don't do much until the post spawn walleye start getting active around mid May.

If you go, it might help to look for protected areas that warm up more quickly...like coves. There are some where the surface temps can be as much as 5 degrees warmer than the main lake temps.

Thanks, I just got the boat fired up and looking for a good prospect. Deciding between DC and Starvy. I think your reply is making be lean toward Starvy even though it is a bit farther. Thanks again.

[#0000FF]We know the fish are there. If you have a reasonable knowledge of the lake and can search out the active fish you can have a good day.

Good luck and post a report.

I fished there today in the Indian Bay area from my tube. The trout are starting to get more active and chasing flies now. Like TD said, the trout can be anywhere from the bottom to the surface. I marked a lot of them that were suspended between 17' - 25'. I have only picked up trout but it shouldn't be too long before the walleye start getting after it. There were a few boats out today but it was still a little windy.

The up side of taking your boat to Starvation is you won't have to have the decontamination treatment.[Smile]

Good Luck!

Thanks for your help. Probably won't make it now until next Wednesday, but maybe the timing will be perfect. You are right about DC - no decontam at Starvy.
