Well, the 2016 John "Big Fish" McClatchy 6th Annual Fishing Derby is officially in the record books.
With beautiful weather and Magic Reservoir at full pool 83 Adult anglers and 10 Junior anglers came out to test their skills at landing the "Big Fish" of the day. This year we broke a record with the "Biggest Fish" ever in this tournaments history being brought to the scales by local angler Lyman Bridge of Bellevue.
With a record turn, out and generous donations from local participants we were able to payout $2100 in total prize money this year to the successful anglers. With donations still coming in for Camp Rainbow Gold we are currently at $4000 and counting. Once again, another record set thanks to the awesome folks who participate in this Derby each year for such a great cause.

Congrats, Mike. Sounds like a great success. Was it a fast bite, or on the slow side? Never seem to get any reports on Magic on this site. Certainly not from the resort! I'm sure your work on this worthy cause is appreciated, esp. because I know you are very busy this summer. Mike

This year the fish were in close to shore, with most being caught in 8'-12' of water. I can tell you the first place fish was caught by a bank fisherman and the second place fish by a guy fishing out of a float tube. I think with Magic being at full pool all of the feed was close to shore and that's where the fish wanted to be. I fished deeper water and never had so much as a bite [frown]In all we only had 13 fish weighed in for the Adult Division and 5 fish for the Junior Division.
