NOT A BAD WEEKEND AT THE GORGE
#1
Friday was very windy but we got into a few kokes, Saturday we found mostly macs and the wind was so calm we were hoping for a breeze. Overall it was fun other than blowing a tire on the trailer on the way home, really liking my new GPS-guided trolling motor setup that helps keep the boat where it needs to be.

I was there Tues, Wed, and Thurs last week and we did good on kokes...3 downriggers, and I also used a planer board for the first time...have you ever used planers for the kokes or lakers there? Pretty sure I had 3 good hits on that those 3 days, and actually caught 1 off it, so don't think I was getting deep enough with it...I know the downriggers were working, but it'd be nice to know if you, or anyone else has had much (or any) success planing for the kokes or lakers...

I have never tried planer boards, but with surface temps already in the 63 degree range you would need to drop the line down pretty deep off the planer. We didn't see anyone using them on this trip so the season to use them may be at an end with the warmer weather.

There is a recent thread on here discussing planer boards with some great info.

I think you're right on the season being over for the higher fish, other than maybe getting into some rainbows there...or maybe very early in the day...mostly I was just trying it out ffor the first time, and it was an opportunity to get an extra rod in the water...some guys said I was probably only 10 - 13 ft deep with it, but without eyes on, I really don't know...maybe there's some kind of chart that would say...tks, and Guluk

I like using planer boards with a tadpole diver or dipsy diver. I think I can get down to 25- 30 feet. Try it let me know if you get success . Takes some practice.
