I took my son to the area around the bridge leading into the UL state park last week. I'd heard great stories from by bros on this site about catching tons of white bass. We jigged and lured and tried all sorts of things. The white bass were right down in the water. I COULD SEE THEM! But they were not interested.
I live in Springville, so I'd like to take my son back there or to Lincoln Beach, or somewhere around Springville, but I need some help knowing what to use and exactly where to go. We don't have a boat.
Help?

Spawning fish are sometimes not interested in eating. Also, the ones you can see can also see you. Try fishing deeper holes where fish are holding even though you might not be able to see them.
Small curly-tail jigs, spinners and minnow-imitating plugs all work well on white bass. They also take worms.

Keep using the small jigs you were using. I like red or pink heads in 1/16th oz. with a 2" grub in some shade of green and chartreuse
but then it probably doesn't matter. Fish a slow retrieve with an occasional twitch or pause. If that isnt working sometimes just hopping it slowly back across the bottom. The bridge area you were fishing should be good until the spring fling is over.

It's been over 10 years since I fished that spot, but back when I did the white bass would hammer a small (1/16 oz) white paddlebug that I picked up at Sportsman's Warehouse. I'd catch them on other grubs but that one seemed to have the most success.
