Oh What a Night
#1
Well I hope it will be a good one. Just got set up for a night cattin adventure. Farming is caught up till morning anyway so I tried my boat and gear to see if it will work. Pulled out my crawlers from the bottom drawer in the fridge, my hiding spot, and went to bait up to catch a carp. Well that bottom drawer must be set a tad bit too cold. My worms were all frozen, but I put them on anyway and guess what? I got a nice carp for bait. Filleted him up and cast out. Didn't take long for the first customer and guess what? I got schooled, it wrapped around my fish basket and broke right off. Too bad it would have bumped my low scoring fish. Anyway got a nice moon and it's a gorgeous night to listen to the sounds of the night. More later J

Thanks I'll need that luck. They are grabbing it with one big hit and then they're gone by the time I grab my pole. Not sure what's going on yet. Hope I can figure them out. Sure is a pretty night though except for the skeeters. Dang I just missed another one. Thanks and catch ya later J

Looking forward to a nearly play by play throughout the night with the rest of the insomniacs.

Are you out alone, or do you have a partner or two. Not sure if I could do it alone.

How about a 20.5"er and a few more misses. Getting cold, I didn't bring warm enough gear. May call it a night before long. Later J

Got a 21" er and the dew is really coming in, everything is getting quite wet. Did you know Pelicans fly in the dark. Crazy birds. Skeeters are driving me crazy. They keep flying in under my glasses and biting me. Bout time to call it a night. Sure like to bump my score. Oh got an 18"er. Later J

Well it slowed down so I finally quit and went home. Think I ended up with 5 or 6 cookie cutters no bumps for me tonight. Oh well it was fun anyway. Get some sleep. Later J

Thanks for the fun report! Seeing those sunset pictures made me yearn for a good nighttime adventure. I couldn't do it without a head net. You are a brave man than I[Wink]

Nice report... kind of a play-by-play broadcast. Glad you got away from some of your farmin' duties for some much needed rejuvenation.

I have been looking forward to this full moon period since last month. I really like putting in a night shift when there is a full moon. The midges are a nuisance -- although very nutritious -- and the skeeters will travel miles for a sampling of my A- blood. A good slathering of OFF and a head net are a must. The blasted wind has kept me on-shore for the past few days but I'm hoping Monday night will bring calm seas and a chance to find a big night time feeder that will get me into the 30 inch club.

Still lots of good cattin' ahead. The next couple of weeks should produce some really good contest cats.

Good luck to all.

I hit the lake around 6 AM, and was supprised by the amount of wind. I fished the north side of the marina to stay out of the wind, and had regular activity. It certainly was not fast.

The fun part of the morning was getting a fish on each pole within about 10 seconds of each other. After setting the hooks, it was a matter of deciding which was the better fish and taking it from there. Ended up being a cookie and a mudder. Large fish of the day was a female that went about 24-26 inches. I have not caught a male yet.

As you mentioned, I had a good number of pop and drops.

A scout group was out there working on canoeing skills. Swamping a canoe in 2-3 feet of water is certainly not the same as when the water is over your head.

.Sounds like a great time!
Has there been any discussion of picking a date for a night flotilla?

It sure was a gorgeous night last night and the sounds were so cool. Those full moon nights are really not bad at all for staying out, other than the dew and cooler temps. Skeeters weren't thick, but sneaky so they would fill up before I noticed. Better give it another try if ya can. Later J

Hey Lynn thanks for the well wish, sort of paying for it today. Three hours isn't enough sleep anymore. It sure was a nice night. Cats are getting pretty beat up now so the spawn must be going. Water temps were low seventies. Sure hope there are a few big ones left, I'm stuck in the low twenties. Hope your wind subsides. Later J

Sounds like a great morning. Wish it was a little faster up here, but it's still fun. Guess I should have moved around a little. Thanks for the report. J

Little talk on picking a night, Mikes son will leave soon on a mission so right after we may try finding a night. I checked my boat for fish ability and it's ok, but think I need my courtesy lights in. Watch for an open invite in the next two weeks I expect. Later J

Hey Jeff nice job getting a few cats! I also hope there a few big ones left in there...I haven't had any decent luck in a month. I went out today and caught a couple 10" channels, a TON of mud cats, one carp, and a nice 15" bass...not sure if it is a largie or a smallie.
Anyways, I'm in when we do another night trip. But I'll probably only fish until midnight or 1:00. All nighters leave me pretty worthless the next day.

Wow 15" bass is good for this puddle. Nice job!!! Yeah I think I'm a 1:00 type guy myself when we do the nightilla. I'm not sure where the big cats have gone, but I sure didn't find any. The fish population was sure active last night, tons of jumping fish all night and I graphed lots in the river. May have all been carp, but still they keep me interested. Well got to run bale my neighbors hay so catch ya later. J

Glad you got some time to wet your line SkunkedAgain. sorry you didnt catch any to help your scores and help get the North team closer to them southern boys. I've been hitting the river down here in Brigham and also can't find anymore big boys. lots of 14-16 inch range. but nothing to help improve scores. guess we'll just have to keep trying. going to give it a try tonight.
Nice bass Lavaman
