Trolling at Soldier Creek Question
#1
I have been fishing at Soldier Creek for awhile now using bait, jigs and lures. I would like to start trolling but have no idea where to start or what equipment to buy. All my gear now is spinning rods and reels. My boat is small but gets me where I need to go (slowly). Can I get some ideas on what to purchase and how to use it? Budget is not big for sure. Thanks!

It depends on what time of the year it is, on the lures you use
you need to get the lures down to where the fish are by adding weight to your line
you can get Rapala Lures that dive blue and rainbow and some that have green in them. flat fish also dive

this time of year a squid with a 10" leader to a 4" sling blade dodger works
Cuts and rainbows love worms.
Wedding Ring spinners work I like to have a 18" leader to a 4" sling blade dodger
speed about 1.5 to 2 mph.

A white tube jig with a worm on it.

the big cuts are deep

Kokanee are getting deeper it is hard to catch any with out downriggers

I would buy a lead core line reel and pole. this will get you down where the fish are

What liketrolling said but to add if you don't want to invest in a downrigger or lead core line and new reel look into getting divers. I trolled with dipsy divers and we're able to catch some rainbows.. no kokes though..

Divers work great. I have 3 downriggers on my boat and my wife hates them. (go figure, i dont know) says they are to much work. Dont buy the jet divers, they are fine but you can lose to many fish. the constant dive during the reeling of the fish works against you. buy the walkers or the lure Jensen deep six that has the break away clip. it is fully adjustable from light to heavy tension. witch planes back up the surface once the fish hits. they both make different size to achieve different depths. i have the biggest walker and it will dive 60 feet. my wife has caught many kokanee. one draw back is the amount of line you let out. watch for other boats with down riggers cutting you off! I just bought her the deep six size 0 witch dives 40 feet for strawberry as a back up. line your reels with heavier line 10 to 14lb. if you real is small you can buy a cheap larger spinning reel. i think thats cheaper than buying a whole new leaded reel and pole.
