I'm taking my 8 yr old twin nieces up to Deer Creek tomorrow night to fish on the boat and would like to get them into some action. I know it has been fairly slow up there this year, and of course the mussels are present, but does anyone have any tips of how I can get some fishing action for them. We don't even need big fish, just any fish would be great so I can make sure they have fun.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Some people this time of year will fish up where the river comes into the lake with various types of bait for trout.

Fished there yesterday.. caught some perch trolling and anchored by the inlet/island. I was using nightcrawlers when anchored up and pop gear with worms trolling. I was trolling at around 20-30 ft down.

There is fast action fishing the edges of the cliffs for smallmouth bass using curly tail grubs. The crawdad colored grubs are more effective. I like the Gary Yamamoto brand. A lot of small fish but easy to catch if you toss the grub to the edge and jig it back to you. The cliffs just west of the island ramp hold a lot of fish.
Soooo gooooooood in the fryer. Fish tacos!
