I'm debating whether it's worth it to attempt one more trip to Strawberry before the Ice hits the lake. To be honest, my luck has been fairly dismal this past year, but that mean's that I'm due some success right?
I haven't seen any reports in the last few days on Strawberry.
Can anybody tell me if there are any docks in the water? Last time I was there, they had removed all the main docks and all that was there were 2 really skinny metal docks right at the foot of the ramp. Are those still there, or have they removed them as well?
Does anybody have any estimates as to when the ice will start forming on the lake?
And of course, is the fishing good right now? It's getting dang cold, but I've heard that's when the very best fishing happens.
Has the lake turned over? What's the temperature of the water up there?
Sorry to inundate with questions, but I figured I'd better ask in case somebody knows the answers.
Thanks a bunch !!

We were there on Sunday with about 8 others. One skinny dock was in at the Strawberry Bay ramp. The water temp was 42F. Bring a ladder or two just in case. Fishing was good if you could find a school. It was a cool day at 45F partly cloudy with a northeast 5-10 mph wind. I don't think that the fish fight very well at water temps in the low 30s.

I went to Strawberry today. I wasn't on the Marina side. I was on Soldier Creek Side. I went a little past where the Aspen Grove Boat Ramp is. I noticed it said it was closed for the season. I didn't drive in it but from the distance it appeared to me that there wasn't a boat dock there. It wasn't gated off however so if you could just get your boat in the water with the plain sidewalk and no boat dock, I'm not sure if you would get in trouble for parking there or not. But like I said, I went past that a little bit and didn't go in it. It wasn't very many areas but they didn't plow the snow in a couple spots on Soldier Creek side. I'm not sure if that's the case with the Marina side. But fishing was awful on the Soldier Creek side today. I only caught one 18 inch cutthroat from noon till dark. I'm not sure if they just wanted something else but I covered over 2 miles in my kayak with only that one fish. I tried fishing literally every depth...15 feet to a little over 50. The one I caught was probably in about 15 or 20 feet of water.

Those are all GREAT questions Curt ... the same questions I have. I'm planning to go up on Friday and give it a go. I'll be out in the Renegade and Meadows areas. I expect it to be darn cold fishing without a cabin and a heater (like some people I know ... AFDan[mad]).
Traditionally, I go to either Bear Lake or the Berry the day after Thanksgiving. This year again, it will be the Berry. Look me up Curt if you are out there Friday.

I also went up last Sunday. I was on the water at Chicken Creek East about 8am-1pm. Great weather but slow fishing. I cruised around the shorelines on both sides without much activity from my fly rod or spin rod with a tube jig or rapala. I kicked and trolled around with my little minnkota and didn't see much on the fish finder other than when I crossed sides and ran into a school right in the middle. I was headed in and netted 1 cutt with a purple fly in the middle of the bay. No skunk at least. There was another guy on a toon fishing the shorelines and he said he had a slow day as well. Maybe headed up Friday to try a different spot.
