I'm in St. George this year and loved fishing Powell this summer. I have never fished in winter. Do you think I would find good fishing out of Wahweap? I have a 16 foot Lund, so can still get a ways from the marina just not real far north with only a 30 hp motor. (Typically I'll do Padre or lower, but have gone into Last Chance and Rock Creek a few times. I've been much further north but with Dangling Rope now closed I would run out of fuel going up there + fishing time)
Any winter tips appreciated, especially for Walleye. Thanks [signature]

I go out of Bullfrog, but this is what I do..
I jig with metal (spoons) for the Stripers, but will get about any thing that swims in Powell.. Color does mater, I will try to find the name and color of what I found best..(its a hologram type lure in 1/2oz to 3/4oz) Size and weight as well..Most of the fish come from the same depth of water and back in the canyons to the same type of depth, and are in only a few canyons up north. You must have a good depth finder and know how to read it and know what you are looking at.. Put your self on the water at Powell think of what the canyons look like as you go toward the back, watching the bottom coming up from 100' watch for any humps rock piles bends and shad over them.. Once you see this for your self and where they are look for the same places in any and all canyons, water coming in in the backs helps.. The last trip they was in from 30' to 45' depth but will be moving out to deeper water soon.. Take worms if you want Waleyes and use only about half a worm (I like to rig it on a drop shot) drag it on the bottom at the same time you jig with the iron..But be sure you tie the pole down or you will lose it.. Remember if you are not seeing fish on your depth finder they may not be any, move over the fish slow and fish the outer edges or you will spook the school.. [signature]

Awesome thanks for the tips. I'm feeling inspired so I may even take a day of work off this week and head over before it starts getting real cold this weekend.
Hopefully I'll have something good to report back on. [signature]

I think that the name of one canyon I fish down your way is rock creek, I have done real good in there..
