Deer Creek
#1
Drove past today and other than a few chunks of ice the rest of the lake is wide open. Even the remaining ice will be gone in the next day or two.

The shore anglers seemed to be pulling in a few around the island

The best time is to find the fish is post spawn. They get really aggressive after they procreate. So its really difficult to say when that is specifically, but usually mid to late May is a good time for Deer Creek. Any rocky shoreline that you can find a shelf is a good bet. There are lots of those around the lake. Pre-spawn and spawn are when most people pursue them. The bite can be so subtle at that time, most will not know they are getting bit. Its almost a sixth sense type of sensation, but when you realize it, you won't forget it. This is because of their cheek muscles and they can suck in the jig and you will get a tick or a sudden addition of weight to your presentation. So a sensitive rod is crucial. When you use crankbaits, they will usually slam the lure and you will feel a strike. Another good location to fish is around weed lines. I usually fish Deer Creek from the float tube and do pretty good there. Good luck in your quest.

Yes mid to late may and into early June are when the walleye are the most aggressive. Jigging the shorelines, trolling crankbaits, and bottom bouncing worn harness rigs are how most people chase them.

Hopefully they wake up for a couple of weeks before my bear hunt starts at the end of May so that I can get a few.

It was still 70% capped Saturday but the wind did it's magic overnight and chewed the rest of the ice up over night.

I'll be heading out next weekend to try out all the upgrades that we're installed over the winter.

What upgrades did you do? We are doing some upgrades this spring and summer with a rod tower and accessories off of it.

New fish finder, I-pilot, charging system, battery switches and a tune up.

Setting up the finder so that I can make my own contour maps of where I fish the most. I'll spend all my time playing with this stuff and forget to fish while I'm out there. Lol

Lowrance Elite 7" screen TI 2.

It going to take some getting used to to a touch screen, but it has some cool options.

Now if the boat was as cool as the equipment.

I've got all this mounted on a 1979 tri-hull that looks like it has come back from the dead. Lol

You are going to love the touch screen, just keep small children from playing with it or you may find out the hard way that all of your way points got deleted.
