Is shore fishing at Lake Powell a thing? Never tried it and have never heard. Taking a trip to the Grand Canyon this month and will be passing by Lake Powell, and wondered if it would be worth bringing the fishing poles. Any info/tips is much appreciated.
Lake Powell Shore Fishing?

Depending on time of year you will be there, fishing from shore can be decent to good. It really depends on where you will be. The lake is of course very large and there is only limited shore access without a boat. Fishing lake Powell is much better by boat. You can bait fish with anchovies and catch stripers and catfish in some areas around the dam and marina. The bullfrog area and halls marina areas have some shore access where you might catch some fish. You may be able to catch some smallmouth or largemouth bass with jigs and other bass lures if you can access some rocky shorelines when bass are in the shallows. Usually it is best late April, may June etc.
Check out wayneswords.net Lots of good Powell info there

You'll need a National Park Pass or pay the entry fee, of course. There are public fishing docks at Wahweap that are popular. Enter at Page.

For any trip to be not worth taking fishing poles it would have to be to somewhere like the Sahara.
Always take a fishing pole, it's not like they take much room.

The smallies can be had pretty easy from the bank if you can find a rocky shore with some depth.
