Rockport Not Rock'n, but OK..Fri. 1-27
#1
Earlier in the season we were doing well for perch deeper, to 45 FOW...then the slowdown started (for me at least) about 3 weeks ago..still getting some nicer ones, but very tough bite and catching..I thought it'd be best to try for perch and maybe trout, so we went shallower, finding 28 FOW today...I wasn't planning on the constant snow/wind conditions, but with shelters up right away, and staked and roped down, heaters on inside, it was fairly comfortable - as long as we stayed inside...We didn't have lines in water til 0900, but that was ok, 'cuz the bite was pretty much off 'til about 1130, and then was fair 'til about 1:00...in his tent, my buddy got 1 nice rainbow and 3 jumbo perch with just a couple dink releasers...I ended up with 5 jumbos and about 2 dozen dink releasers; missed 1 'bow...the best part of fishing at 28' is that anything released goes right back down...When fishing 2 poles for perch, my best set was small white/green Demon with crawfish oil soaked cut perch belly piece, and small white/red Demon with fresh eyeball....and another TIP FOR PERCH NEWBIES...use a smaller eyeball, and assuming you haven't mangled it during surgery, and  after getting it on your hook,  pierce it with a sharp object, or slightly cut it with scissors (my Swiss Army knife has the small scissors)...that makes a huge difference, as well as using a smaller donor eyeball...Guluk...

Looks like I left right when it got "better". Was that you with the two red Eskimo shelters side by side on the upper end about midway out? Heard someone in there ask his buddy how the eyeball was working out. I didn't have a shelter to be more mobile, but that darn wind made It difficult.

Hey MW...yeah, that probably was us..you were out in that nasty with no shelter? I've done that a few times, but a long time ago..my intent this day was to drill more searching holes away from our tents, for when it slowed down, but with that wind and snow, I gave up on being more mobile...glad we had the takers we did...did you end up doing any good?

Hey MW...I just saw your other report on being rejected there at RP...you hadn't said anything about being out in the open with no shelter in that crazy weather, so thought maybe you were talking about a different day...I find it often difficult to catch perch even when out of the elements in my shelter, so I do understand how tough it would be in the wind, in the snow, on a day like yesterday..guess I need to put up my BFT flag, I sure would have welcomed you in for a spell...Guluk..

Just 3 little dink perch. Caught them between 11-11:30...right before it got better. Did feel good to get that skunk smell off though!
