Submergant vegetation low this time of year. Small, orange colored or silver colored spinners worked well this time of year. Fly anglers are doing well on black birds nests fished near the bottom. The size of trout is running between 13 and 16 inches
North Pond is empty of water and not to refill until later this year. The amount of submergent vegetation in Hinkson Slough is at a minimum at this time, which anglers find pleasing.

Squaw Creek Reservoir Squaw Reservoir is full and fishing has been great. Spring is the best time to fish the reservoir. Anglers are reporting catching lots of carryover rainbow and brown trout. Game Warden, Dave Patula reports he contacted numerous fishermen at the Reservoir last Saturday, March 13. Fishing is great for bait, lure and fly fishermen. Rainbows and bowcutts in the 11-14" range were common with a number of 5 fish limits observed. Remember to pickup your new fishing license and trout stamp and if you fish from a vessel you need life jackets.
Olive and peacock colored nymphs are catching fish using a very slow retrieve. Try wooly buggers, sheep creek, prince nymph, birds nest. Truckee River Fishing is picking up. Warmer temps are prompting fish to start feeding. Flows are around 400 cfs and rising quickly. Get your fishing in now, high spring runoff flows by mid-April will prevent wadable fishing until late June. Bait Fishing- drifting worms with enough weight to bounce off the bottom. Nymph fishing deep and slow may result in bites. Spring stocking of the Truckee begins March 16, however, there are a lot of carryover and wild trout to be caught as well.Use caution in wading the river this time of year, flows above 400 cfs can be tough to wade.

Fishing is fair- due to very low river flows 29 CFS. May have some ice cover. Wooly buggers, prince nymphs, hares ear, san Juan worm Fish are easily stressed this time of year due to low flows - Treat with care when releasing! Don't forget, whitefish are just as challenging fun to catch as rainbow and brown trout.

West Walker River Rainbow trout stocking begins in April, but trout stocked last October should still provide some angling.

Most ponds have been stocked so trout fishing should improve. Sparks Marina: Target different depths using a slip bobber. All other ponds: float a worm off the bottom All urban ponds have received their first spring rainbow plants of the year (except Rancho and Marilyn's Pond).
