Sit-at-home-and-tie-flies day tomorrow
#1
I used to try to take friends/family that usually don't fish out on Free Fishing day, but I get really tired of the crowds really fast. And everyone that I usually invite on FFD already has a fishing license this year! [Image: happy.gif]

So, I'll probably hit diamond fork tonight if I get a chance and try to fill a fly-box or two tomorrow. If I do go fishing, it'll probably be down south where some family members own land and I can kick people off if need be. It's always fun to see someone arguing with you saying that they own the property or they have permission when they know they don't.

I need to concentrate on dry flies because I don't seem to do them very well. I've gotten pretty good at nymphs, scud/sow, nasty-looking-crack-smoking streamers, soft-hackles (amazed at how well those work for caddis hatches), but I keep having issues on the dries. I plan on making another attempt at parachute, no-hackle, and thorax flies since I should have lots of time. The biggest problem I still have is crowding the hook eye.

That, or I'll grab someone off the street and take them fishing whether they want to or not! [crazy]

I use lighter thread. I like UTC70. You just cannot pull on the thread as hard. I can wrap hair on Caddis easy enough, but it is a little tougher to use on spinning hair.

Try lighter thread and start back farther. I admit, I like streamer hooks for this reason. #18's are fantastic.

Here is a quick tutorial on how I tie parachutes. No eye-crowding involved...
