[left]Took my boys to Silver lake flats Today. Road up was not as rough as usual- has been graded recently. Fall color just starting.
Water is very low. The shallows by the shore are populated with 6-8 inch fingerlings which quickly strip any soft bait off a hook. Further out a floating bait did quite well, but you have to set the hook as it is settling to the bottom, which is when the 12-13 inches would strike. If it set on the bottom the small fry would strip it.
I didn't have flies with me, but the water was roiling constantly with the small fish next to shore. My guess is that a float tube and a sinking line would have been the best set up for getting to the larger fish out deeper.
