So, I took your collective advice and went to Cabela's and bought a kit. I spent $100 on one of their 5 weight, 9', Three Forks rod combos. I spent a little less on the rod in anticipation of spending a little more on line, once I get going.
I couldn't wait to play with it, I took it out tonight to The Cove in Herriman. I practiced casting for an hour and had 2 casts that looked like I imagine they should. Those two were dumb luck. The majority of casts either piled up 15 feet in front of me, orbits didn't seem right. There were multiple times that the fly line itself seemed to e tend like it should but the 9 foot leader bunched up.
I think I need to jump on you tube and watch some more vids on casting.
Anyhow, thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it.
