Deer Creek -2022

A buddy and I fished DC today in our tubes.  We launched at the main State Park ramp about 9:30 and fished near there and the mouth of Wallsburg Bay until about 2:30.

We used our usual fly tackle, sinking lines, buggers and leeches and picked up a few nice, healthy-looking fish, all rainbows from 13" to 19" long.  It was 12 degrees when we got there and made it up to freezing by the time we left.

The water temperature was 38 degrees and the visibility in the water was about 8' - 9'.  The reservoir is 73 full and rising.  The level has come up nearly 3' since our last trip on December 21st.

There were about a dozen bank anglers while we were there and most of them were catching some fish too.  There was one boat out on the lake when we got there but it turns out it was a waterfowl hunter, although he could have done some casting in between blasting.  

There was some ice down near the dam but for most of the area that we could see it was open water.

This is the time of year when the water is warmer than the air.

It usually takes most of the ride home to begin to feel your toes again.

The water may be warmer than the air, but water absorbs heat from you about 100 times faster than air.
