Rockport 10/23/23

Unbelievable Perch action again.
Lots of good 8-9.5”ers.
Some 9.5-10.5”ers.
A few in 10.5-11.5” range.
Schools of Perch stacked up from bottom to 10-15’ thick off of the bottom.
Hit after hit after hit up until noon, non-stop.
Pulled jigs promptly at noon, trolled silver spinners tipped w/worm at 1.1 mph from noon till 12:45 as I ate lunch, cleaned up gear, etc.
Bow after Bow, no more than five minutes apart between hits.
A few small Smallies in the mix.
No Browns this trip.
Docks have been pulled but wedge dock in place.
A LOT of water has been released.
Launching conditions getting worse by the week with mud at bottom of ramp and getting shallow.
Go load your livewell and take home limits soon before launching gets extremely tough.

Shane, I've never fished Rockport, but you make me want to give it a try, if I only had time to do it... Hopefully soon, my fishing habit can resume.... Got the sheetrock in and working on floor coverings, so getting closer... Later J

Sounds like a day in perch-jerker heaven.  Good show.  I'll bet you had to stop at the emergency room on the way home to have that big removed from your kisser.

I fished Echo on Tuesday, and it was slow for me. Caught a few perch and a couple of trout. I was originally going to go to Rockport but decided on Echo because of the wind report. Now after reading your report, I wish I would have stuck with my first decision and gone to Rockport. Although I never fish on weekends and the weather changing next week maybe I'll have to give it a shot this weekend. Thanks for the report.

I felt like I needed to go to ER on way home.
Not to have  removed, but to get pain reliever for sore shoulder from so many hook sets!

I try not to fish weekends either.
Fortunately the forecast was wrong for RP yesterday, almost glass until it picked up right about 12:40.
That is why I pulled lines at 12:45pm.
But, if my little grandsons can join me I just may go again this Saturday.
Look for my silver Ranger with black Merc on back.
Feel free to just pull right up and let’s gang up on them!

I am planning to hit a local lake this weekend but your report has me thinking I need to go to RP!  could a 22' pontoon launch now or is the water too low?  getting my 80 year old FIL out once more this year and would really like it to be a catching trip for him.  thanks for the report!

You should be fine.
I usually fish on my own and launching/retrieving my 19’ boat on my own is the issue due to mud on side of ramp and docks gone, leaving no where to tie up.
There is a steel wedge dock out but only usable on one side due to mud on the other side.
As long as you have a helper either in truck or boat you should be fine.

Still having a hard time believing I finally drew a tag... Hoping my 28 years without an elk tag will end maybe next year, it was sure fun seeing the elk bugling all over during my moose hunt... Sure got me wanting to chase them again.... Later J

I'm glad Curt is good at posting links and has already done this... Like I said it's not a very big bull, but it was a fun time with my family helping me get it done... My nephews have gotten really good at spotting animals and strong for packing them out... was sure glad for their help... It was good to have someone remind me I was hunting moose instead of the elk and deer I'd keep watching... Sure enjoy those times hunting with family, even my daughter joined me for the hunt... I was afraid I ruined her on hunting when she wounded her buck and had to shoot it 3 times with a muzzle loader... She is so tender about seeing things in pain, so I didn't think she'd go again, but she was with me when I got the moose... This time one shot took care of business and we were far enough away she didn't have to see any pain... Anyway glad we still have a chance once in a while to keep the old hunting traditions going... I really miss the old deer hunts where the whole family would join for a great camp and hunt.... Later J
