Scofield 4/4/08
#1
Took a day off work and went to Scofield today. Eight degrees when I arrived, forty when I left at 2:00. Weather was great. Ice is holding up real well. It was really cracking a lot this morning. Started fishing in 7 feet of water on the East side across from the island using white jighead tipped with crawler. Pretty good action to start, but it slowed to almost nothing by nine. I tried a little farther out and then closer to shore...nothing. Slowed down for most everyone else too. Walked out about half way to the island, drilled a hole and started again. It wasn't real fast, but I did pick up a fish about every half hour. Caught a real chunky 19" cutt. That was fun to bring up a 6 inch hole! Ended the day at 2:00. Caught twelve - three cuts, two tigers, and the rest were bows. Fun day.

They have started working on the dam again. Traffic is diverted down on the temporary one-lane road. They knocked down the bridge today. I don't think they will be able to bring the water level up much this year.

Nice job getting the 19incher out of the hole. With these night time temperatures, it looks like you may have a couple more chances to get off work again, huh? Pretty good of fishing though, thanks.

Sounds like a fun day. Those high lakes can be good for another couple of weeks through the ice. Most people have put away their ice gear by now though.
