Took my nephew fishing today. He kept asking where the fish were and I told him they hadn't made it to our hole yet. He compared the fish to trick or treaters and said our candy must suck.

You can get a lot of help here if you tell us where you have fished and how you are fishing. ie type of tackle, bait, etc.
How are you fishing?
Using a fish finder?
Let's get you some fish!

I have been skunked at the following locations
Strawberry 2 (last week at chicken creek, today at the marina)
Flaming Gorge (lost dog)
Causey (kinda in the middle)
East Canyon 2 (by the boat dock, and middle lake)
Echo
Deer Creek (by the main boat ramp)
Mantua
If I count it out it's actually 9 times getting skunked this year. Usually I use glowing tube jigs in various sizes tipped with mill worms. I use a vexlar flasher and an underwater camera. I also have a 2 pole permit so it's more like I'm getting double skunked on each trip. I have been up about 15 times this year so not a total bust.

Holy crap dude!! My late pappy would tell you your not holding your lips right!
All kidding aside,, I never, and I mean never use millies unless I'm fishing for kokies.. try switching to waxies, pan worms, night crawler or good ol' cut bait to tip your jig. And make the bait offering fit the size of fish species your fishing for.

Sorry to hear about you bad luck. Looks to me like you got the gear and know what your doing. I got skunked for the first time fishing East Canyon on Sunday, I thought my Father-In-Law was about to cry! [laugh][sly]
Listen to Fuzzy and coldfooter, they know what they are talkin bout!
This is the first year I have really started using glow jigs/ lures. They do seem to work better at night, but I do better with plain old white and natural colors most of the time.

Some questions to consider:
Are you using a spring bobber or something similar to detect the bites?
Are you matching the size of your offering (tubes, bait, hooks and etc.) to the size of fish you are targetting?
Are you using light enough line to detect the bites?
Are you trying from shallow to deeper water?
Do you vary your jigging action?
If others in the area you are fishing are catching fish are you asking them if they mind showing you what they are doing to catch fish?

OOOOOH! Thats Cold Girl! Ice Cold!Funny but Cold!
My suggestions some have already been mentioned.
4lb test= limber line like an XL
(your lure must be able to straighten out the line)
jigs with legs : paddle bug, whatta cricket, booger,Cutr bug on 1/32 or 1/16 oz heads
(the fish love the movement of the 2 legs)
Colors: White and Chartreuse
(easiest colors for the fish to see)
Wax worms,wax worms,wax worms
(meal worms are for when you run out of wax worms and you have to break their heads off)
Don't sit too long at a hole with no fish, move.

I caught a couple trout at mantua on Monday. It was pretty slow for me - probably 3 "sets" of bites an hour. When I finally caught one I opened it up and it had a lot of green sparkly trout bait in its stomach. I caught them using meal worms on a white tube jig size 8 hook. So, you can catch them with meal worms but I would think the green trout bait would work better.
