Flaming Gorge Ice Fishing Guide
#1
Hey all, I have been up trying to catch lakers through the ice at the Gorge with not much luck... this season, assuming the ice comes in, a couple buddies of mine and I are thinking of hiring a guide and were wondering if any of you would recommend any service in particular or have experiences you wouldnt mind sharing.

Thanks

From everything I have read, researched, and seen I have two folks that I will likely look to guide me a FG. Both are usually booked out a ways.

Jim Williams who is a member of BFT and I have seen him recommended multiple times by others.

And

Ashley Bonser who I have heard good things about as well.

I personally do not have any experience with either one of these fine gentlemen, but I did spend a lot of time researching this very subject. These guys seem to know how to do things right, and take care of the animal as well.

Hope that helps.

Jim is an excellent guide but you aren't going to get him anywhere near any ice. Clark Sabey is also an excellent FG guide and he also does ice fishing for macks:

I'll defer to Ashley for ice fishing, but you better bring your own ice-maker so far this year. The whole lake is wide open from just below Buckboard down to the dam, and I wouldn't even be sure about ice at Buckboard now since its so warm. Bring your water skis. Bring the kids. Load up the cabin cruiser and camping gear. Its June! And the parking lot looks like it![crazy]

As for mack fishing, I have open dates between Sunday and early April, since the lake is supposed to be frozen and my boat put away for a few weeks. Not! Why waste time fishing in a 12" hole when you can fish the whole pond from a boat?
