I met somebody at the marina last week and they stated that the fishing would get hot after the lake turns over. What does he mean by that? Will the Cutts start heading to the shallows?
Taking my dad out for his last trip . Any good ideas for the best approach to get him on fish. We have a boat. Looking for general areas and tackle recomendations.

It's when the water switches from top to bottom. The water on top goes to the bottom and the bottom water comes to the top. The temp of the water is what triggers it. Someone on here can probably say for sure but I believe it's when the water on top reaches 39 degrees.

I don't know where I got the number 39 (I thought I read that somewhere) from but here is what I found on Google.

This mixing occurs when the surface temperature of lakes reaches 50 to 55 degrees F. When the lake's water reaches this temperature, the surface water becomes denser than the other water in the lake's water column and sinks.

Right now the top layer of water is warmer than the bottom layer of water. When they say the “water turns” it’s when the cooling air temperatures actually cause the top layer of water to be colder than the bottom layer. It’s why a lake doesn’t freeze from the bottom up. It freezes from the top down.
