Jordanelle Browns
#1
It's that time of year! Pre-spawn brown trout are hungry, active and aggressive, making this the easiest time to catch these powerful fish. Jordanelle holds a good population including some real lunkers and I've been having a ball!

Browns will hit anything right now, but my go-to this year has been a small chartreuse Gitzit with a meal worm. Most productive fishing seems to be a couple feet off the bottom in shallow water during the early morning, moving out to 35-40 feet of water by 9:00 am. I've been fishing Ross Creek, but I suspect similar conditions elsewhere on the reservoir.

Ice is currently 12" and starting to soften up.

Congrats on a nice fish.  Just one minor correction.  The browns are POST-SPAWN.  They run up the Provo in late fall and are now spawned out and hungry.

Do you think the open water is better or worse for browns? I’m thinking of hand launching.
